The Biscoff cookie cream + chocolate + strawberries combo was SO good. I genuinely didn’t know how much I needed that 😂

Syracuse prices keep going up, but somehow the 25-cent milk at the NYS Fair is still going strong! 🥛😂

The Fair has been celebrating New York agriculture since 1841, and dairy has always been a huge part of its story!

The Dairy Products Building was unveiled in 1909 and continues to serve up State Fair favorites like ice cream, cheese and, of course, the iconic 25-cent milk.

Outside of the food, you can get up close with the cows, catch the daily cow shows, and check out the Mobile Dairy Experience.

The Finger Lakes has a fascinating history shaped by women who challenged expectations, broke barriers, and changed the course of history.

Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Blackwell, Eunice Newton Foote, and Jikonsaseh all have stories connected to this region.

You can still visit places connected to their stories, including the Ontario County Courthouse, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Bloomfield, and Ganondagan State Historic Site.

Their stories span women’s rights, medicine, science, and Haudenosaunee history.

As we celebrate 250 years of America, we also honor the women whose contributions helped shape the history that came before and after it.

The Finger Lakes, and Ontario County in particular, has a fascinating connection to American history. The 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua is a big part of that story.

But the history goes back much further.

Ganondagan, the Ontario County Historical Society, downtown Canandaigua, Canandaigua Lake, Skenoh Island, and Sonnenberg Gardens all offer a chance to explore the history of this region.

Together, they tell the story of the Haudenosaunee and a history that goes back long before the United States.

It’s called the PowerHouse in Ithaca. Inside, it’s a walk-through exhibit that shows exactly how homes use energy, and how to use less of it.

From insulation and heating to lighting and appliances, each station breaks down how everyday systems impact energy use in a way that’s actually hands-on, not just informational.

What makes it even cooler is that it travels to schools, libraries, and community spaces across the region, basically a mobile learning experience for homeowners and renters.

It’s one of nearly 50 participating Experience Clean Heat locations, a program from NYSERDA helping New Yorkers experience firsthand the benefits of clean heating and cooling.

I didn’t expect this in Owego, NY.

You probably don’t expect to find donuts and self-serve craft beer in the same place, especially in Owego, New York.

But that’s exactly what makes Owego Donut and Beer Co. so interesting.

Besides the donuts, they’ve also got espresso, hoagies, pretzels, affogato, and a self-pour beer wall where you can try different craft beers at your own pace.

Just outside Rochester, Eastview Mall completely surprised me. Between the natural light, fountains, and stores we don't have back in Central New York, I can see why people make the drive.

And with wedding season coming up, this might be my new go-to shopping spot.

Syracuse has the only upside-down traffic light in the country 🚦🇮🇪

Located in Tipperary Hill, this light was flipped in 1928 after local Irish residents repeatedly smashed the original red-over-green version, a protest against British symbolism.

Today, it stands as a symbol of Irish pride right here in Syracuse.

New York coping mechanism 🍀

The Shamrock Shake is back at McDonald’s! 25 cents from every shake sold supports the local Ronald McDonald House, supporting families right here in our community.

Did you know that over the past four years, McDonald’s restaurants across New York State have raised a combined $450,000 for their local Ronald McDonald Houses in Albany, Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse during the annual Shamrock Shake fundraiser.

It also has a fascinating history. The name “Noble Cellar” comes from a tie back to its historical roots and role in the Underground Railroad.

Best hidden pizza in Syracuse? Johnny Mac’s in Lakeland. Thin crust, killer sauce, old-school vibes. It’s one of my favs and I almost never hear people talk about it. A true local gem. 🍕 I’ve been coming here since I was a kid.

Ana Richardson

Ana Richardson, with over a decade of formal acting training, thrives on camera and in front of audiences. From adolescence, she hosted "Rough Times Live" on Cable Access Television as part of the Media Unit. Winning awards from the Syracuse Press Club and the Onondaga Co Dept of Aging and Youth, Ana excelled. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Oswego in broadcasting and acting, she briefly worked as television reporter for Channel 2 in Utica before pursuing other interests. Returning to storytelling and on-camera work, she found her niche with Syracuse Socialite.

Michael Calobrisi

Michael Calobrisi, a filmmaker and storyteller, relocated to Syracuse, NY, during the 2020 lockdown after developing a passion for Upstate NY during his time at SUNY Oswego. Graduating in 2016, he interned at Kaufman Astoria Studios, leading to roles as a Set PA on Orange is The New Black and a Video Editor for Joule Entertainment. Collaborating with industry names like Remy Ma and Mathematics from The Wu-Tang Clan, he co-founded "Defenders of Fresh" in Brooklyn. As a Videographer and Motion Graphics Designer at Pinckney Hugo Group, he directed photography for major brands like NBT Bank and Carrier. Recently appearing in a commercial for NYCM Insurance's 100th anniversary during the 2024 Super Bowl.
